There are several reasons for this error message. Clicking on the "Details" button when the error message appears may show text strings such as the following:
  • "The Netscape Nitro Service does not allow connections from your current IP address..."
  • "Your username and/or password were not accepted by the Netscape Nitro Service..."
  • "The Netscape Nitro Service could not be started due to an authentication timeout ..."
  • "The Netscape Nitro Service indicated that it has insufficient resources to handle your connection..."

There are a number of things that you can do:
  1. Confirm that you have an active Internet connection.
  2. Ensure that you have your correct username and password configured in the Netscape Nitro client.
  3. Check the server name and port number in the Nitro client under the Settings tab and confirm the following information:
    • Server Name: nitro.services.netscape.ca
    • Server port number: 7000
    • Listening port number: 5400

If you continue to experience problems connecting, contact Netscape Nitro customer support at 1-866-NETSCAPE (1-866-638-7227).
